The North Bay Police Service Auxiliary Program offers a unique volunteer opportunity for residents who are passionate about community safety and giving back.

Auxiliary Members operate under the supervision of sworn officers and support community engagement efforts. Auxiliary Members help promote community safety, provide police visibility at local events, assist with traffic and crowd management, support crime prevention initiatives, and represent the Service at public events. This program allows volunteers to gain valuable experience, strengthen connections within the community, and actively contribute to keeping North Bay safe.

Roles of NBPS Auxiliary Members

Auxiliary Members operate under the supervision of sworn officers and contribute to community safety in a variety of ways, including:

  • Promote community safety throughout North Bay
  • Provide police visibility at local community events (e.g., parades, fairs)
  • Perform crowd management and ensure public safety at large events, such as the Santa Claus Parade or Meet a Machine
  • Support crime prevention and community mobilization initiatives with the Community Response Unit
  • Participate in traffic safety initiatives, such as:
    • Traffic control during R.I.D.E. programs
    • Observations for caution letters
  • Assist at public information booths during community events
  • Participate in ride-alongs with sworn officers to gain operational experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Have successfully completed at least 4 years of secondary school or equivalent
  • Not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Be a fully licenced "G" driver, having accumulated no more than 6 demerit points
  • Must have Standard First Aid and Level C C.P.R. training
  • OACP Medical Examination package (hearing and vision assessment)
  • Physically fit and mentally able to carry out duties
  • Be of good moral character and habits

Commitment Required

An Auxiliary Member is a volunteer position focused on community safety and giving back to the community. Successful applicants are required to meet the following commitments:

  • Attend a six-week training program – consisting of two evenings (Tuesday & Thursday) and a full Saturday every other week, for the six weeks
  • Volunteer a minimum of 96 hours per year
  • Attend a minimum of three community events
  • Reside in the North Bay area and must have a North Bay address
  • Complete all ongoing training as required
  • Commit to the program for a period of three years

  • OACP Medical Examination Package (hearing and vision)
  • Copy of valid “G” driver license

Stage One

  • Applicant Screening

Stage Two

  • Successful candidates will be invited to complete a fitness assessment. At this stage candidates must obtain a Level 7 on the Shuttle Run

Stage Three

  • Selected candidates may be contacted to complete a written Pre-Background Questionnaire

Stage Five

  • Successful candidates will be invited to complete an Interview

Stage Six

  • Psychological Testing and Assessment
  • Background Investigation

Stage Seven

  • Conditional Offer of Volunteer Employment
  • Medical Assessment

*In accordance with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Private investigators and Security Guards Act, Bill 159, (2004), a person holding a Private Investigators licence will not be an eligible candidate for the North Bay Police Service Auxiliary Program.

*A person currently licensed as a security guard, or one who holds a dual licence may make application to the Auxiliary Program if it is determined that they do not directly or indirectly participate in any investigative capacity. Notwithstanding, a complete background investigation will be conducted to determine if a conflict of interest may exist.
