About Chewie:

At 10 years old, Chewie retires after eight years of distinguished service as a Trauma Support Dog with Victim Services of Nipissing District, working in close partnership with the North Bay Police Service and many community partners. Throughout his career, Chewie provided comfort and support to victims of crime, children and youth, and first responders during some of their most difficult moments. Trained specifically for work in trauma-informed environments, Chewie played an important role in interviews, crisis response, community outreach, and member wellness initiatives. While much of his work took place quietly and privately, his impact has been deeply felt across the community. Chewie’s legacy will continue through the ongoing Trauma Support Dog Program and the next service dog preparing to step into this important role.

VSND and NBPS extend sincere thanks to the YMCA for generously donating space for this event.
