June 11, 2019

On June 9th just before 10 am North Bay Police conducted a traffic stop on Algonquin Avenue in North Bay. The investigation lead to the arrest of Jason HANSMAN, age 36, of North Bay who is charged with:

  • One count of Failing to Stop for Police;
  • One count of Assaulting a Police Officer;
  • One count of Possession of Cocaine; and
  • Five counts of Driving while Prohibited.

It is alleged that police attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act violation. The accused did not stop the vehicle as directed until eventually he drove into a parking lot on a side street. The police determined the accused was under five different driving prohibitions. When police attempted to arrest the accused he assaulted the Officer. Following arrest a search of the accused resulted in the seizure of approximately 6 grams of suspected cocaine.

The Jeep Cherokee the accused was driving has been impounded as a result of the offences committed.

The accused will appear in the North Bay Courthouse on June 10th for a bail hearing.

North Bay Police remind the public that it is a privilege to have a drivers licence and that privilege can be taken away for various reasons either provincially or right across Canada. Do not take your driver's licence for granted. Also as the owner of a motor vehicle you must ensure people driving your vehicle are properly licenced. Whether you are a driver or an owner you have the responsibility of keeping our roads safe.
