40-Year-Old Arrested for Impaired by Drug
On January 7th, 2024, members of the North Bay Police Service arrested and charged a 40-year-old male with Operation While Impaired by Drug and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
On January 7th, at approximately 7:10 pm, the North Bay Police Service received a call in relation to a male, who was slumped over the wheel of a vehicle in a parking lot of a local Cannabis store. Officers attended and after several attempts to wake the male by knocking on the window failed, an officer opened the driver’s side door, at which time the male awoke. After a brief interaction, the male was arrested for having care and control of a vehicle, while impaired by drug. The accused was transported to Police Headquarters, where he was examined by a Drug Recognition Officer. During a subsequent search, the male was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
A result of the investigation, the male was charged with;
One count of Operation While Impaired by Drug
One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance
The accused was later released on an Undertaking with a future court date.
Police are reminding the public that being impaired by drugs carries the same consequences as being impaired by alcohol.
Consequences of being charged with an Impaired Driving Offence include;
7-day vehicle impoundment
A mandatory 90-day driver’s license suspension
Upon conviction, subjects face heavy fines, further driver’s license suspensions and possible jail time.
